ADAM Taggart scored from the spot against his old club, but it wasn’t enough as Perth Glory hung on to beat Brisbane Roar 2-1.

Andy Keogh fired the home side into an early lead, before the Glory forward forced an own goal from Connor O’Toole in the second half.

The Glory were cruising with a 2-1 lead, until Taggart was fouled in the box by Tomislav Mrcela, who was sent off for the offence.

Taggart stepped up to convert the spot-kick in the 84th minute, but the fight-back was too late from the Roar.

Tony Popovic’s side dominated the opening exchanges, but could have gone into the break further ahead were it not for Jamie Young’s incredible double save.

The Roar keeper kept Keogh’s initial header out with a superb stop, then blocked the rebound against the post.

At the start of the match all eyes were on ex-Glory striker Taggart, who left the club last season in acrimonious circumstances. Perth owner Tony Sage accused Taggart of being a “liar” and blindsiding his club with his transfer to Brisbane, claiming his actions were the equivalent of a “two fingered salute”.
