Pakistan vs Australia: Glenn Maxwell run out for 98 in fourth ODI
Glenn Maxwell’s four-year wait for his second one-day international century goes on after being run out for 98 in the fourth match against Pakistan.
Maxwell walked off to warm applause from coach Justin Langer in Dubai after selflessly chasing a second run in the final over despite a century being there for the taking.
It is the fifth time the all-rounder has been out in the 90s.
That’s as many 90s as Ricky Ponting had in his 375-ODI career. Adam Gilchrist (six) is the only Australian to have gotten out in the 90s more times. Only eight players globally have been out between 90 and 100 more than five times, with India’s Sachin Tendulkar (17) top of the charts.
Maxwell’s 98 rescued the Australian innings, dragging the team to a total of 7-277 after it had slumped to 5-140 in the 29th over.
The Victorian did enjoy some luck along the way. On 10, he was dropped by wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan off the bowling of Yasir Shah and on 26 he enjoyed another life in the deep off the bowling of Shah. He was later bowled by Usman Shinwari on 76 only for the third umpire to confirm it was a no-ball.
Maxwell’s last, and only, ODI ton came in the 2015 World Cup against Sri Lanka.
