The Arsenal duo, along with on-loan Inter forward Lukas Podolski, have been named on a shortlist of 11 of the best German footballers playing in a foreign league

Mesut Ozil and Per Mertesacker have been nominated for the German Football Ambassador prize, which is awarded to the best German footballer playing in a foreign league.

The Arsenal duo are joined among 11 nominees by Lukas Podolski, who is on loan at Inter from the Gunners, as well as Real Madrid star Toni Kroos.

Lazio striker Miroslav Klose, Dinamo Moscow's Kevin Kuranyi, Shkodran Mustafi of Valencia and Cerezo Osaka forward Cacau are also in contention.

The shortlist is completed by female players Anja Mittag and Nadine Angerer, of Rosengard and Portland Thorns respectively, and Brisbane Roar midfielder Thomas Broich.

The award is decided by a public vote and fans from any country can choose their three favourites before the winner is announced on June 2.
