The verdict is in concerning the altercation between the Thunder's Russell Westbrook and a Nuggets fan that occurred seconds after Denver’s 127-124 win over Oklahoma City Thursday night: Westbrook indeed shoved the fan, but the fan, not Westbrook, was at fault.

That much was clear to most people who witnessed the incident. Seconds after Gary Harris’ game-winning 3-pointer, the fan ran onto the court and got in Westbrook’s face. In reaction, Westbrook shoved him, an understandable response in the heat of the moment.

The NBA saw it that way, too, as Westbrook will not be disciplined for his part in the dust-up. The fan, on the other hand, was issued a summons and complaint for trespassing, and has been banned from games, ESPN reported.

Regarding the fan who got in Russell Westbrook's space yesterday. Source tells ESPN that following the incident arena security removed him from the court. Law enforcement issued a summons and complaint for trespass and he's been banned from games. https://t.co/EFqtWxstNw

Seems like a reasonable punishment. Yes, fans pay a lot of money for their seats, especially court-side, but their rights end when they get into a player’s personal space
