Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie met with a specialist Thursday and expects to meet with another Friday or early next week to determine the extent of a right thumb injury and whether a procedure is necessary, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Nets said in a statement that Dinwiddie has a thumb injury and is being evaluated but provided no other details. The statement said more information would be provided once a diagnosis is made.

He scored 29 points Wednesday night as the Nets beat Orlando for their fifth straight victory. It was his 10th 25-point game off the bench this season. Dinwiddie has enjoyed a breakout season for the resurgent Nets, averaging 17.2 points and 5.0 assists per game off the bench.

The strong play resulted in Dinwiddie receiving a three-year extension worth about $34 million last month.

Dinwiddie was originally a second-round pick of Detroit in 2014 but spent his first couple seasons with the Pistons and Chicago Bulls going back and forth from the G League. His big opportunity came last season when the Nets lost point guards Jeremy Lin and D'Angelo Russell to injuries, and he went on to average 12.6 points. He finished third in Most Improved Player voting.
