Nat Fyfe will lead and pick players for an AFLX side next February in a revamped format of the game.

Fyfe will lead the Flyers in the one-day tournament at Marvel Stadium next year, with three other AFL stars picking squads and captaining rival outfits.

Eddie Betts will lead the Deadlys, an all-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island side, while Patrick Dangerfield will spearhead the Bolts and Jack Riewoldt will captain the Rampage.

The four teams will face off on February 22, just days after the Big Bash League final.

Fyfe, Betts, Dangerfield and Riewoldt will have a pool of 100 players to choose from at a live draft to be held earlier that month.

Fyfe was originally set to be part of the inaugural AFLX tournament earlier this year, but was withdrawn after Fremantle’s initial squad announcement.

Games in February’s tournament will see eight of each side’s 14-man squad on the field at any one time.

Fyfe said he was confident his line-up would provide some “spectacular play”.

“Fans should be prepared to see some spectacular play by the Flyers,” he said.

“We’ll be going high and fast to be the best in 2019, the other captains should consider themselves warned.”
