Mushfiqur Rahim, the Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman, has formally withdrawn himself from the upcoming tour of Pakistan.

"We have received a letter from Mushfiqur today. He is unavailable for the whole tour of Pakistan due to personal reasons," Akram Khan, the BCB cricket operations chairman, told Cricbuzz on Friday (January 17).

Mushfiqur, who mentioned his stance verbally earlier, has made his stance clear by putting it in writing. "I am not going to Pakistan [for the whole tour] due to family reasons. Today I have submitted letter to the board and they have accepted it," he said at the end of the BPL final.

"They [family] are scared and I cannot play my normal game carrying such mentality [thinking of my family reservation]. Certainly it was a difficult decision because if you say that I have to be rested from one series it is like a sin for me," he added.

Mushfiqur also mentioned that he did not register to play in the forthcoming season of the PSL given that the entire tournament was to be played in Pakistan. However, the 32-year-old hasn't ruled out from touring the country in the future and acknowledged the changing stance of international teams and players with regards to issues of safety.

"I had a big opportunity to play in PSL. But I refused to play because I know the whole tournament was going to be held in Pakistan. 'So I said no because my family was not giving me the permission and cricket is never ahead of life.

''But I think, Pakistan is definitely better than previous time [before] and if other teams go more frequently then I will have that confidence personally. I think it is a very good place, facilities wise, a tremendous place in sub-continent to play cricket.

''Their wicket is very good, batting friendly. So of course I will miss. So if the situations are good consistently for next two or three years, then there is no reason not to visit Pakistan,'' he said."

Bangladesh are set to play three T20Is, two Tests and an ODI in Pakistan between January and April.

Protem fast bowling coach for the tour

Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo will have Champaka Ramanayake, the High Performance coach of BCB, as the stop-gap fast bowling coach on the tour. The post has been vacant since the departure of Charl Langeveldt, who was released as per the request of Cricket South Africa.

BCB had already held talks with former South African head coach Ottis Gibson as well as Nantie Hayward for the role of pace bowling coach.

So who's traveling to Pakistan, and who's not?

Champaka, Bangladesh's protem fast bowling coach, did not have any reservations traveling to Pakistan, unlike some of the other foreign coaching staff.

It is understood that Sohel Islam will be on the tour to help the spinners as the regular spin bowling consultant Daniel Vettori, fielding coach Ryan Cook and batting coach Neil McKenzie aren't keen on traveling to Pakistan.

Sri Lanka-trained Mario Villavarayan is unavailable due to his finger injury and will be replaced by local Tushar Kanti Howlader.

Bangladesh's South African physio, Julian Calefato, has agreed to travel to Pakistan. BCB is expected to name a computer analyst soon as India's Shrinivaas Chandrasekaran will not be available although he will be providing his inputs over video calls.
