Adelaide Strikers, the Big Bash League (BBL) franchise, on Friday (May 17), announced the signing of veteran Australia batsman Cameron White for the forthcoming season. The 35-year-old was left out of contracts from Melbourne Renegades and Victoria for the upcoming domestic season.

The one-year deal gives White a chance to extend his domestic career to 19 seasons. He has played for both the Melbourne franchises in the BBL and is currently the fifth-highest run-getter. Strikers needed someone with experience after their foreign player Colin Ingram backed out from this year's tournament.

"Cameron adds a considerable amount to our side not only with his ability, but also his understanding of the game and he knows what it takes to be in a successful team," said, Adelaide's general manager of high performance, Tim Nielsen.

Having played 234 T20 games around the world of which 47 have been for Australia, Nielsen knows what White brings to the table as he was the coach of the national team when White made his debut in 2008.

"In the fast-paced nature of T20 cricket, Cameron's experience will help lead our side immensely, especially in the absence of Travis Head when he is on international duty.

"To have such a distinguished player of our game will only boost our side and our younger players."
