WA SKIPPER Mitch Marsh has copped his share of criticism after a horror Test series against Pakistan, but his level-headed century against Queensland in the Sheffield Shield could be a sign of things to come on the international stage this summer.

Marsh - dropped on 41 on Sunday - remained unbeaten on 100 to steer the Warriors to 5-236 at lunch on day three at Allan Border Field after embarking on a bold rescue mission for WA.

But more Marsh heroics will be needed with the visitors still trailing the Bulls’ first innings by 212 runs. William Bosisto was not out 38 in an unbroken 80-run sixth wicket stand with his captain.

Marsh’s 10th first-class ton has featured 14 fours and two sixes.

The 27-year-old has made the national selectors sit up and take notice before Australia’s Test series against India, starting in early December.

He endured a horror Test series against Pakistan in the UAE, making just 30 runs at 7.50 before being overlooked for the one-day series against South Africa.

Marsh has reversed his fortunes after an ominous start to the Shield clash.

Jimmy Peirson (82 not out) and Michael Neser (56) were both dropped off Marsh’s bowling in a 115-run seventh wicket stand on Saturday before the Bulls declared their first innings at 9-448.

Marsh finally enjoyed a change of luck with the bat, surviving a chance to share a 112-run fourth-wicket stand with Ashton Turner (48) and going on to notch a timely ton.
