EXCLUSIVE: Sacked Wests Tigers centre Taane Milne has signed a deal with NSW ISP side Mounties for the remainder of the 2018 season.

The 22-year-old had his contract torn up earlier this month for a second breach of the NRL’s illicit drugs policy.

It’s understood first contravention occurred during his time with a previous club.

Milne started his career with the Roosters before moving to St George Illawarra where he made his first grade debut in 2016.

Milne was just a few months into a two-year-deal with the Tigers before his axing and must serve a 12-week suspension before he can return to the field.

The deal with the Mounties allows Milne to serve his ban and get back into a training environment where he can press his claims for a second chance later in the season.

The Mounties deal has no connection to their NRL affiliate Canberra which means Milne will be ripe for the picking ahead of the 2019 season.

It’s understood Milne has already had five NRL clubs register their interest in the Fijian international.

After terminating Milne, the Tigers said in a statement; “after due process and full consideration, and in collaboration with the NRL’s Illicit Drug Policy guidelines, the club has made the decision to terminate Milne’s playing contract.

“His behaviour contradicts the values, behaviours and culture being created at the club.

“Wests Tigers have committed to providing Milne with support and counselling during this challenging time.”

The deal with Mounties was struck this week which means, pending his contract registration, Milne should be able to start serving his suspension from next week.

Milne has played 18 games for the Dragons and six Tests for Fiji.
