Matt Short joins Adelaide Strikers on a three-year deal
THE Adelaide Strikers have signed exciting Victorian all-rounder Matt Short.
The 22-year-old has agreed to a three-year deal to join the reigning Big Bash League champion from the Melbourne Renegades.
Short, who made his Sheffield Shield debut for Victoria last season after scoring an unbeaten 134 for a Cricket Australia XI against England in a tour match, made 62 from 48 balls as an opener in his last BBL match against the Brisbane Heat in January.
He was squeezed out of the Renegades side for the thrilling semi-final against the Strikers at Adelaide Oval when veteran Cameron White returned to the team to take his place.
Still developing, Short featured in six matches in four BBL campaigns for the Renegades, including three last season where he scored 106 runs at an impressive strike rate of 121.84.
He has been given a Victorian four-day and 50-over contract for next season.
SACA high performance general manager Tim Nielsen said Short was a high-quality addition to the Strikers squad.
“Matt’s a talented young player, a right-hander who gives us another versatile batting option and he also bowls some handy off-spin,” Nielsen said.
“We are pleased to sign him and look forward to him joining us next summer.”
Short is the latest in a long line of Strikers already secured for next season.
The others include leg-spinners Rashid Khan and Liam O’Connor, paceman Billy Stanlake and fellow bowlers Ben Laughlin and Wes Agar, all-rounder Michael Neser and batsman Jake Lehmann.
