YOUNG stars Princess Ibini and Amy Sayer will continue their development with the Matildas as part of their squad for the upcoming pair of clashes against Chile, but there was rising talent who was curiously absent from the side.

Mary Fowler, still just 15, has been hailed as an amazing prospect and would have been selected in the squad – but has been made unavailable for family reasons.

“Mary Fowler and her father have made her unavailable, she’s still in England,” coach Alen Stajcic explained in his press conference ahead of the pair of clashes in Penrith and Newcastle.

“So she was actually in Europe when we toured last time, but she’s undertaken some specialist coaching in England and her father has made her unavailable for these games which is a little bit disappointing I have to say.

“They’ve lived an alternate lifestyle if you would like to call it that over the past few years, and the father really has a whole family he’s trying to look after and protect and really trying to foster their growth on and off the field.

“We don’t know if that path is the right one or the wrong one but she has certainly come a long way on and off the field as a person but we have to give them that space to do whatever they want to do – she is 15 years old. But for me it’s a little bit disappointing that she’s not coming back, but she’s under her father’s wing and I wish her and her family the best.

Stajcic added that the young star remains in England trialling with clubs and also working with a sprint coach who has previously done work with Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo!

“Her brother was playing in Holland recently so she was spending a bit of time there, but now I know she’s in England training with a specialist sprint coach who worked with Cristiano Ronaldo in the past so she’s over there doing that at the moment,” he said.

“ And she’s trialling with some clubs over there”
