As Liverpool pushed Manchester City at the top of the Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur have slipped far from title contention.

Toby Alderweireld's 90th-minute own-goal gave Liverpool a 2-1 win over Spurs to take them two-points ahead of champions City, who have a game in hand.

Snatching three points so late at Anfield kept the Liverpool faithful dreaming of a first title since 1990.

Tottenham aren't part of that trophy conversation anymore after a three-month slump that has left Mauricio Pochettino's team 18 points off the top and in a scrap to finish in the Champions League places.

Manchester United trail Tottenham on goal difference with Arsenal and Chelsea only a point behind.

Like Liverpool, Chelsea left it late to win Sunday - coming from behind to win 2-1 at Cardiff City.

At Anfield, Roberto Firmino headed the Reds ahead in the 16th minute before Tottenham levelled on 70 minutes when Lucas Moura struck.

However, Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris couldn't hold a header from Mohamed Salah, instead sending the ball onto Alderweireld who then diverted it into his own net.

"It was a lucky punch, the header and the ball rolls in," Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp said.

"But I told the boys after the game, there are 500,000 different ways to win a football game and today was rather ugly.

"No problem, we take that.

"Without a bit of luck you cannot be in the position we are in."

Meanwhile, Cardiff manager Neil Warnock was out of luck and out of patience as an officiating error cost them against Chelsea.

The relegation threatened hosts led through Victor Camarasa's goal.

But Cezar Azpilicueta headed in an equaliser from an offside position in the 84th minute.

Warnock was furious and further enraged that Antonio Rudiger only received a yellow card for dragging down Kenneth Zohore moments later with the striker breaking through on goal.

There was worse to come for Cardiff when the Blues' Ruben Loftus-Cheek headed home in stoppage time.

"It's almost like it's not who you play, it's who you get to referee and who is going to have a flag in their hand nowadays, it's just as important," Warnock said.

"The best league in the world and probably the worst officials at the minute."
