LAURA Geitz expects the Suncorp Super Netball grand final in Perth on Sunday to be a wild west shootout between goalscoring gunslingers Caitlin Bassett and Jhaniele Fowler.

And the three-time grand final winner says West Coast’s Fowler should be the last woman standing.

Geitz’s comeback season to top-level netball following the birth of her son Barney was stopped by Bassett’s Lightning, who beat the Firebirds in the elimination final at Boondall on August 12.

She said the home-court advantage and Fever’s ability to score quickly through Jamaican star Fowler tipped the scales in favour of West Coast.

Geitz said the fourth quarter will be critical with the Lightning inviting late surges from both the Firebirds and Giants in the first two weeks of finals.

“What’s impressive about the Fever is their last quarter, they just go straight through to Jhaniele and pretty much score from two passes,’’ Geitz said.

“The Lightning are quick out of the blocks but I think their last quarter is a bit of a concern for them.

“Lightning are on planes to Sydney and back … then they are off to Perth so I think that will definitely come into it as well.’’

She said long-time Diamonds teammate Bassett would keep Fowler honest.

“She’s (Bassett) been in great form in the second half of this season,’’ Geitz said.

“It is probably going to be a bit of a shootout with Jhaniele up one end and C-Bass down the other.

“It’s going to be a really close one. Lightning are really going to provide a contest.’’
