Sri Lanka's injury woes continued as Lahiru Kumara was ruled out of the remainder of the Australia tour due to a hamstring injury while Dushmantha Chameera was also a fitness concern. Kumara, the 21-year-old right-arm pacer, did not take the field in the final session on Day 2. He underwent scans which revealed a tear to his right hamstring.

Suranga Lakmal and Dushmantha Chameera had to shoulder the bulk of the responsibilities in the first Test after Kumara was unavailable following the dinner break on Day 2. After Sri Lanka's loss by an innings and 40 runs in the opening Test at The Gabba, skipper Dinesh Chandimal confirmed that Kumara will be out of action for four to six weeks, and ruled the bowler out of the South Africa series as well while he also mentioned that Chameera is hampered by an injury, although not going into details.

"Kumara is out for four to six weeks. So he's out of the next game. And Dushmantha is also injured. So we'll need to get another two quick bowlers," Chandimal said after the game.

The Sri Lankan selectors are yet to name any replacement players. At the moment, Sri Lanka have two other pacers apart from those who featured in the first Test. Right arm pacer Kasun Rajitha and left-armer Vishwa Fernando, who was roped in as a replacement for the injured Nuwan Pradeep, are the present options available for the visitors in the pace department.

The fitness of the players has been a huge concern for Sri Lanka, with Kumara joining Angelo Mathews and Pradeep on the sidelines due to injuries.

Mathews sustained a left hamstring injury during the tour of New Zealand and was subsequently left out of Sri Lanka's squad for the two-Test series against Australia. Pradeep also injured his left hamstring during the tour game against Cricket Australia XI and was forced to miss the series.
