Team missing U.S. GP after going into administration

Sky Sports F1’s Ted Kravitz believes it is unlikely Caterham will race again in F1 – but is more hopeful that Marussia can return to the grid.

It was announced last week that both teams are in administration and have been withdrawn from this weekend’s United States GP.

It leaves just eighteen cars scheduled to run in Austin – a prospect which has immediately rekindled speculation that the 2015 grid will consist of eight three-car teams.

However, according to Sky F1 analyst Kravitz, the sport may continue with just nine teams in 2015 even if neither Marussia nor Caterham can be saved.

Caterham are bottom of the Constructors' Championshp after failing to score a point during the entirety of their three years in the sport, but Marussia are ninth after finishing in the top ten at Monaco. With the team set to receive a prize-money windfall of around £40m if they retain ninth, they could be an attractive proposition for a would-be saviour of the Banbury outfit.
