Kenny Golladay: Lions don't need Antonio Brown trade

Kenny Golladay: Lions don't need Antonio Brown trade

The Detroit Lions want to find more playmakers, especially on the offensive side of the ball this offseason. And Kenny Golladay, one of their current playmakers, has heard all the rumors about many folks wanting the team to get into the mix for wideout Antonio Brown. But all that talk should remain talk in the end as far as Golladay is concerned.

Appearing on the Karsch and Anderson show on WXYZ 97.1 The Ticket, Golladay said in no uncertain terms that he believes the Lions are good enough to win without Brown on the team. Here's a look at what he said in the appearance as written in the blog piece recapping the visit: "To be honest, I feel like the Lions are good where we’re at," Golladay told the Karsch and Anderson Show on 97.1 The Ticket.

    All set, huh?

"No offense to Antonio Brown, he’s gonna go down as one of the greats, an amazing player," Golladay said. "But with me, T.J. Jones, Brandon Powell, Chris Lacy, Bruce Ellington -- I mean, the list just goes on. All those guys have made plays this year. I have trust in those guys and I know the organization does as well."

Detroit has a need for game breakers at the spot, but does have Golladay and Marvin Jones to rely on. They might only need some subtle tweaks this offseason as a result of that.

Coming into this season, it was clear that what the Lions wanted to do offensively could center around Golladay at the position, given they already had a powerful big two in Golden Tate and Jones. When Tate left, it only ensured those chances should only come more frequently in the future, and when Jones was injured and shut down, this was only more the case. The wideout is big and physical with deep ball potential, and based on his first season, already knows how to work like a professional. That has been a big asset for him as it relates to taking a big jump. Arguably, Golladay is the one guy who could really help transform the group into one of the best in the league given how he's trending.

On the outside, it just feels like Golladay, with his size and ability, is a key to the whole operation, and that's only more true now that Tate is gone and the team needs someone to help pick up some slack. For the Lions, the thought of Golladay developing into a monster was scary because he has looked the part most of the season, and it's only clear that's where he's going in the future.

So far, even as the Lions didn't always get the ball to Golladay consistently down the stretch, he's gone off, which is a great sign for the future. He's going to be a guy who plays a starring role for the team as a result of this, and could only be more dangerous as a result of expectations he's been blowing away. Golladay himself in addition to Jones could be a huge reason a trade for someone like Brown isn't as big of a need as it could be. Plus, taking targets from Golladay might be detrimental to the offense.

In 2019, everyone will be excited to see how high Golladay's star might climb, and having him and the rest of that cast of characters mentions plus the potential for a few smaller offseason tweaks might be good enough than adding someone like Brown to the mix.

@Nealcaffrey54 ... even as a team who probably wasn't even looking at Brown, the Lions tear him down....

damn... cuz Golladay is the new Detroit God...
