WA vice-captain Ashton Turner will make his ODI debut against India in Dehadrun today.

Turner, who featured during Australia’s 2-0 T20 series win against the hosts this week, was handed cap No.228 by legendary opener Matthew Hayden before play.

The 25-year-old compiled several match-winning knocks for the Perth Scorchers during the Big Bash League, and has developed a reputation as one of the country’s most dynamic hitters.

Of late Turner has struggled for runs, having reached double figures just once in his last seven innings.

However, his selection allows Australia the flexibility to bat Glenn Maxwell further up the order.

Turner is one of several Aussie batsmen pressing their case for a ticket to England this winter.

Australia has 10 ODI’s to settle on their best formula before their World Cup campaign kicks off in June.

Usman Khawaja was selected to open the batting, ahead of WA’s D’Arcy Short, while Peter Handscomb held his place in the middle-order. Keeper Alex Carey has been demoted to No.7.
