Kearyn Baccus leaves Wanderers, joins Melbourne City
WESTERN Sydney Wanderers have parted ways with midfielder Kearyn Baccus, three weeks after his public tantrum at being substituted in the FFA Cup.
The club announced on Friday the 27-year-old had left the club after four seasons by “mutual consent” with Melbourne City announcing the signing of the midfielder on a short-term injury replacement deal.
It comes after a controversial incident in the Wanderers’ FFA Cup quarter-final win over Melbourne City suggested all was not well between Baccus and manager Markus Babbel.
Baccus was seen taking off his jersey and throwing it down the tunnel after being taken off in the 57th minute, with Fox Sports football expert Mark Bosnich slamming the player’s behaviour.
“Are you serious?” said Bosnich after the game.
“I don’t like it, I’d rather him at least go over to the other player (the substitute).
“I understand him being upset at he manager, but me personally I was brought up as a young apprentice at Manchester United that if you did that you’d be in big trouble.
“So that kind of sticks with you.
“Each to their own though I guess.
“Haven’t they had problems with him before? Markus Babbel said he’d have a word with him tomorrow.
“Maybe he’s got something going on in his own personal life... It doesn’t look good at all, not for him, not for the club, not for anyone.”
City have signed Baccus as an injury replacement for Scottish midfielder Michael O’Halloran, who is set to miss up to three months with a hamstring injury.
“Kearyn will add quality and brings a wealth of experience to the squad, helping maintain the current tough competition for places,” City coach Warren Joyce said in a statement.
