There are plenty of doubts about Valentine Holmes’ ability to make the transition from rugby league to the NFL.

However, one man who has successfully made the transition has backed him.

Jordan Mailata, the 21-year-old former South Sydney under-20s star who has made the 53-man roster for Philadelphia Eagles, has addressed reports of Holmes code swap during a social media live.

Macquarie Sports Radio first aired the audio after Maitlata was asked if Holmes could make the incredibly complex switch.

“Yes, he will definitely be able to make the transition,” Mailata, who is still awaiting his NFL debut said.

“He’s a worthy athlete. There might be another Jarryd Hayne situation but honestly you can’t compare the two. They’re in two different situations, although it seems like they’re in the same situation.

“But really, their circumstances are different, they’re both going to be approaching the NFL in a different way, to my understanding.

“He’s definitely worthy of making the transition.”

Hayne, who had won two Dally M Medals and was 26 when he made the transition, had also never played gridiron before making the switch — which was largely considered to be successful after playing eight NFL games with the San Francisco 49ers.

However, Holmes spent the 2016 off-season doing NFL testing for scouts and is believed to have been put through power, speed and skill tests during his latest visit to the US.
