JON Jones has taken and passed a lie detector test that suggests he did not knowingly take steroids before regaining the UFC light-heavyweight title from Daniel Cormier, a new report says.

MMA Fighting reported that Jones, stripped of the title after testing positive for anabolic steroid Turinabol, took a polygraph last month. UFC sources said he passed the test, which posed questions about PED use before UFC 214 in July last year.

The result will add some weight to claims that Jones was an unwitting victim, though the test was not requested by, or linked to, the UFC or USADA.

Jones tested positive in a sample taken the day before he beat Cormier by third-round TKO in Anaheim, California.

He has been provisionally suspended by the UFC and is awaiting sanction from the California State Athletic Commission and USADA. He has a CSAC hearing next month.

Jones, 30, risks a lengthy ban given he is a repeat offender. He was suspended for one year after testing positive to two banned substances (letrozol and clomiphene) before UFC 200 - blaming the result on a sex pill.
