TWO of Australia’s greatest ever boxers – Jeff Fenech and Jeff Horn – are both tipping a winning double on Sunday as Aussies Jason Moloney and Mark Flanagan go chasing world championships.

Moloney fights for Fenech’s old IBF bantamweight (53.5kg) title against unbeaten Puerto Rican Manny Rodriguez at the CFE Arena in Orlando, Florida.

Flanagan faces American-based Armenian strongman Arsen Goulamirian at the Palais des Sport in Marseilles, France for the WBA cruiserweight (91kg) title.

Both Aussies are underdogs but Fenech and Horn are confident upsets will happen.

“Jason is fighting for my old championship that I won in 1985,’’ said Fenech, a three-time world champ generally regarded as the greatest boxer Australia has produced.

“He’s a very skilful fighter and undefeated despite fighting some very good opponents. It would be sensational if he can bring the IBF world title back to Australia.

“Mark Flanagan is up against a big tough guy in France but Mark has so much power and strength he can beat anyone. He fought the great Russian fighter Denis Lebedev last year and managed to go 12 rounds. If he is more aggressive and throws more punches this time he can come home as world champ.’’

Horn took a break on Friday from training for his November 30 fight with Anthony Mundine to tell The Courier-Mail “upsets are one of the things that make boxing great’’.

“I upset Manny Pacquiao last year when not many people gave me a chance and I reckon Mark and Jason can shock the world this weekend,’’ he said.

“I’ve known Jason for years from way back when we were amateurs. He went to the 2010 Commonwealth Games and he has always been a really slick, skilful fighter.

“I’ve gotten to know Mark as a professional and he is a very strong, heavy puncher.

“He lost his first world title shot against Lebedev in Russia but he showed his toughness going 12 rounds and I reckon that experience against such a top fighter will really help him this weekend.

“Jason and Mark both have the talent to be world champs and I’d be so thrilled if they both came home with the belts.’’

Moloney is unbeaten in 17 fights and Rodriguez undefeated in 18.

Flanagan has 24 wins in 29 fights while the world champ is 23-0.

Moloney’s fight will be shown live and free on Main Event on Sunday from 11am AEDT.
