WARATAH allrounder James Seymour was crowned the Darwin and Districts A-grade cricketer of the year last night.

The left-hand opening bat and right-arm off-spinner hit 452 runs and grabbed a season-high 39 wickets in a stellar season for the Red Caps who lost to Palmerston in a semi-final.

Seymour’s century against Palmerston in Round 11 and brilliant match figures of 13-57 in Tahs’ outright win over Tracy Village were season highlights

Palmerston fast man Christian Leopard won the prestigious Ralph Wiesse Medal.

Leopard’s 26 wickets and 482 runs for this year’s grand finalists won him the medal named after the Waratah top order bat and NT cricket identity when he polled 16 votes to beat Waratah pair Seymour and Brad Schmulian on 14.

Leopard was a long way back after four rounds of voting, but he polled nine votes in a productive rounds five to eight to take over the lead from Waratah allrounder and last year’s medallist Schmulian.

Darwin fast medium bowler Luke Zanchetta was next in line with 12 votes after grabbing 32 wickets for the Eagles.

Palmerston skipper Alex Bleakley won the batting aggregate with his 554 runs in the middle order, while PINT left-arm orthodox Uli van Duyker’s 26 wickets at 11.12 won him the bowling average.

Waratah produced another cricketer of the year in B-grade when Lorenzo Peake’s 29 wickets and 248 runs won him the trophy.

The prestigious Margaret Coady Award in memory of the popular scorer for PINT and Northern Territory cricket, was won by Tracy Village stalwart Dan Harrison.

The much sought after Bob Vowles Curator’s Award was won by Palmerston Cricket Club, with the club championship trophy headed to Nightcliff, who also won the Spirit of Cricket Award.
