Godolphin trainer James Cummings can raise the bat for a half century of Sydney wins for the season at Royal Randwick Wednesday.

Cummings has had an outstanding start to the 2018-19 season with 49 winners since August 1, trailing only Chris Waller (76 wins) on the Sydney trainers premiership after nearly five months of the season.

The Godolphin stable has three chances to bring up their 50th winner with Cummings expecting emerging filly Transmitter to prove hard to beat in the Australian Turf Club Handicap (1100m).

RAY THOMAS’S BEST BETS RANDWICK WEDNESDAY
Best Bet
Race 1 no 1: Zalatte

Promising filly who has finished strongly to win over 1250m and 1400m at her only two starts. She will enjoy getting out to 1600m at Randwick. She is very short at $1.40 but can get punters off to a winning start at the Boxing Day meeting.

Next Best
Race 5 no 11: Prophet’s Thumb

Prophet’s Thumb won on debut during the spring like a topliner and had excuses when unplaced at stakes level next start. She is resuming today but has trialled brilliantly.

Value
Race 6 no 10: Cyber Intervention

Cyber Intervention is eligible for easier races but this lightly-raced four-year-old has ability. He had no luck when held up behind the leaders in the straight at Wyong last start before finishing fourth. He is a $10 chance today and is very good value.

Transmitter has earned her chance at metropolitan level after two successive wins at the provincials over 1000m.

“She is a three-year-old filly having to take on the older mares and with a substantial weight (57.5kg),’’ Cummings conceded.

“But she has won her last two in good style and I’ve been very happy with how she is coming to hand.’’

Transmitter is at $4.40 in TAB Fixed Odds markets and is pressing the Bjorn Baker-trained Sophiella at $4.

Pin Sec is the latest to roll off the Godolphin juvenile juggernaut production line this season with the daughter of Lonhro displaying natural ability with her second in a Warwick Farm barrier trial two weeks ago.

“She has gone ahead since her one and only trial,’’ Cummings said of Pin Sec.

“The trial was good and I was wrapped with the gallop she produced last Saturday morning. She let down with good, controlled speed and I can see her running well on debut.’’

Laburnum, a three-year-old filly by Denman, resumes in the ANZ Bloodstock News Handicap (1100m) but has drawn off the track.

Cummings also confirmed dual Group 1 winner Alizee will return to racing in the Listed $150,000 Christmas Classic (1200m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

Alizee was forced out of the spring carnival after suffering a bleeding attack but the glamour mare has looked very good in two recent trials. She has been shouldered with 60.5kg and Cummings has booked champion jockey Hugh Bowman to ride the mare.
