UPDATE: CANBERRA star Jack Wighton has been stood down from this weekend’s clash against Brisbane after the fullback pleaded guilty to assault and public urination during a night out in February.

Wighton last appeared in ACT Magistrates Court in April, accused of assaulting at least four people, but he pleaded guilty on Thursday to two charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Seven other charges were withdrawn.

The talented fullback’s future at the club looks dark with the Raiders revealing in a statement the board would be discussing his position.

“Canberra Raiders today stood down Jack Wighton from this week’s match against the Broncos and will convene a Board Meeting next week to discuss his position,” the statement reads.

“The Raiders will consult the NRL and are mindful that Jack was today referred to the Galambany Court next Wednesday 4th July.

“The Raiders Board will consider the matter further in the light of the Galambany Courts decision next week.

“The club will not be making further comment until this process is complete.”

Wighton will face court for sentencing next week.

It is unknown at this stage whether the Raiders will stand Wighton down in light of the guilty plea.

The Raiders are scheduled to take on the Broncos in Brisbane on Saturday night in their bid to keep pace with the ladder’s top eight.

Wighton’s guilty plea could not come at a worse time for the Raiders, who only last round were boosted by the return of injured hooker Josh Hodgson.

The Broncos clash looms as a must-win match for the Raiders if they are any hope of making the 2018 finals.
