THE World Cup may be over but that hasn’t stopped St Kilda’s Jack Steven from showing off his soccer skills to produce an incredible goal-of-the-year contender at Etihad Stadium.

Steven’s stunning mid-air volley in the opening minute of the third quarter was one of the few highlights for the Saints in a tough night against Richmond.

His strike from the pocket came after a double-fisted spoil from Tigers defender Nick Vlaustin which was followed by another attempt by David Astbury to punch the ball through for a rushed behind.

North Melbourne legend Wayne Carey described the goal as “unbelievable” but commentator Bruce McAvaney was in no doubt Steven’s effort was the best goal he’s seen this season.

The goal gave the Saints a brief spark after they trailed by 58 points at halftime.

After kicking the first two goals of the third term, St Kilda’s fightback was short-lived as the Tigers went into the final break 57 points in front before completing a dominant nine-goal victory.
