AUSSIE Ducati rider Jack Miller will have one eye on the skies this weekend when the MotoGP season resumes at the Czech Grand Prix at Brno.

The Townsville gun will privately hope for a tropical Queensland-style downpour, with hot and muggy conditions forecast for Sunday.

Miller is a noted wet tracker and his sole MotoGP triumph came in the rain in Assen in 2016.

“Race time — about 2 or 2.30pm is when the thunderstorms have been rolling in,’’ he said. “A wet race? I wouldn’t mind one, or even a wet session, so we can see what the Ducati can do.’’

The Alma Pramac rider is sitting 10th in the championship after recording two fourth placings early in the season, in Argentina and France.

“The last couple of races we struggled a little bit, especially with the tyres,’’ he said.

Miller was bumped off the tarmac on the opening lap of his last race, in the German GP at Sachsenring.

“To be dead last on the first lap and come back as we did wasn’t too bad.’’

Miller said the Brno circuit was an appealing prospect.

“The track is a cool layout, there’s lot of elevation changes, different style corners. It’s got a mix of everything. Turn 1 is a nice long one, be good to see whether the Ducati works its best.’’

Miller is aboard the 2017 Ducati, but will graduate to the 2019 model next season.

“I’m using this year as a learning year before we get the full factory bike next year.’’

The MotoGP teams are returning after the mid-year break with Honda’s factory team superstar Marc Marquez appearing to be zeroing in on his third straight premier class title.

The Spaniard has 165 points, 46 points ahead of legend Valentino Rossi on the Yamaha and teammate Maverick Vinales a further 10 points back.

“It’s good we start the second half on top with the advantage but the season is long and we need to keep the same mentality, they’re (Yamaha) improving every race,” Marquez said.

Miller, 10th on the table with 57 points, said he was already counting down the days to the Australian GP at Phillip Island on October 28.
