JACK Martin continued his connection with Victorian galloper Moss ‘n’ Dale on Saturday with a dominant win in the $100,000 Listed Tokyo City Cup (1800m) at Morphettville.

Martin spent three months on the sidelines after a fall at Hamilton last November and was again forced out of the saddle for about two months between June and August.

But the talented rider has started the spring strongly with consecutive wins with the Peter Gelagotis-trained Moss ‘n’ Dale.

“I’m just lucky to be on board,’’ Martin said.

Coming off a last-start Moonee Valley win, the form around Moss ‘n’ Dale was strengthened about 10 minutes earlier when Rising Red, who chased him home last start in Melbourne, ran a game race when runner-up behind Caulfield Cup fancy Night’s Watch in Melbourne.

Martin gave Moss ‘n’ Dale a nice run in fourth spot throughout before joining in strongly on the home turn, racing past rivals to score a 1.9-length win — his 13th from 30 starts.

“He’s a gem,” he said. “Everyone would have been worried watching him, he came off the bridle probably 1000m from home. But I have so much confidence in him.’’

Gelagotis said Moss ’n’ Dale was the ultimate professional and a lovely horse to train.

“I’ve always said he is my favourite horse,” he said. “I’ve had better horses than him, but I’ve never seen a horse with a better work ethic, he’s a serious horse with a lot of upside.

“I thought he was a handicapping certainly. I was worried there at one stage, but he showed his customary dash at the end.’’

Gelagotis said the would now look to target another interstate feature with Sydney on the radar. “After his last couple of runs we’ve had the inkling he's looking for 2000m, there’s a beautiful race for him in Sydney in three weeks,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, Harry Coffey combined with Darren Weir for another SA feature when Holy Blade claimed the $100,000 Listed W H Wylie Handicap.

Given a un run just off the speed, Holy Blade burst through between runners late in the race to nail top South East galloper Casino Wizard in the shadows of the post.
