GAME PREVIEW
Fans could not have asked for a better final with the Indian Super League’s (ISL) two most attack-oriented teams ready to battle it out for the grand prize.

For Bengaluru, it is an opportunity to make amends for their defeat to Chennaiyin in the grand finale last year. Once again, the Blues have finished on top at the end of the league stage, this time under the leadership of Carles Cuadrat.

While Cuadrat’s men have topped the league stage, they have stuttered of late with three defeats and one victory to show for in their last five outings. Miku, their top scorer last season, has missed large parts of the campaign due to an injury with Venezuelan’s goal tally currently standing at five.

During his absence, Sunil Chhetri has stepped up with the India stalwart leading Bengaluru’s charge with nine goals. Fortunately for Bengaluru, Miku has recovered just at the right time and is getting into the groove as evidenced by his decisive goal in the play-off against NorthEast United.

In midfield, Xisco Hernandez and Dimas Delgado have been the creative forces behind the campaign with five and four assists to their names respectively. The defence, while looking solid, has not been as impressive as last season with their vulnerabilities exposed in the latter half of the campaign.

One key aspect Bengaluru have going for them heading into the finale is the fact that they have emerged victorious on both occasions they faced Goa in the league stage. That, and the fact that Miku is fit and firing once again, will give Cuadrat’s men plenty of confidence in their quest for a maiden title.

Goa, on the other hand, arrive at the final in blistering form despite their minor blip in the second-leg of their play-off tie against Mumbai City. That 1-0 defeat will hardly matter to Sergio Lobera given the blistering fashion (5-1) in which his men dismantled the Islanders in the first-leg.

The Gaurs have for the second year in a row been the most prolific side on display, having racking up a total of 41 goals in their 20 matches so far. Star forward Ferran Corominas is on course for a second consecutive Golden Boot award with the Spaniard chipping in with 16 goals so far in the competition.

Coro has been equally impressive in the creative department as well with striker providing seven assists. Behind him, Edu Bedia has been Goa’s main driving force in midfield with the fellow Spaniard enjoying a sensational season which has seen him score seven times while grabbing five assists.

While Bedia has been the creative outlet, Ahmed Jahouh has been the rock at the base of the midfield with his tireless defensive contributions.

Goa’s defence was the side’s Achilles Heel last season under Lobera but that has all changed in the current campaign. With Mourtada Fall partnering Carlos Pena at the heart of the defence, Goa kept out a lot more cleansheets than they did last season.

As impressive as Goa’s campaign might have been so far, they have their task cut out against Bengaluru given their poor head-to-head record and will need to muster all their strength to land a maiden ISL title.
