Chennaiyin FC scored twice in the second half against FC Goa and could have almost got the equalizer in their first game. They also scored a late goal in their next game when NorthEast United visited the Marina Arena with Mohammed Rafi heading home from close range.

In their first away fixture in Pune, Henrique Sereno scored from a corner to win them another three points. This was followed by the game against ATK where the last 20 minutes saw four goals with Jeje Lalpekhlua scoring an injury time winner to break the hearts of the reigning ISL champions.

Against Mumbai City FC they paid the price of missing their chances. Last weekend in Bengaluru, Sunil Chhetri equalized in the 85th minute, a shot which Karanjit Singh should have kept out, before Dhanpal Ganesh won it for them three minutes later.

The Super Machans have a tendency to score late goals and win matches, much to the disappointment of their opponents. What can also be observed is the fact they are also susceptible in the last 10 minutes or so to leak in a goal.

On Friday evening when Kerala Blasters were the visitors, Chennaiyin FC won a questionable penalty which was converted by Rene Mihelic in the 89th minute. John Gregory’s team were also keeping the ball well in the injury time to ensure that they see the game out.

However, from a throw-in, which they thought was theirs, Kerala Blasters made the most of the opportunity with Chekiyot Vineeth scoring the vital equalizer. This time though there wasn’t enough time left on the clock for the home side to make a comeback.

The match was boring with neither side being able to create scoring opportunities. Both teams lost the ball in their build-up play. Bikramjit Singh wasn’t able to exert himself in midfield while Anirudh Thapa couldn’t do much either creatively or defensively.

Wes Brown’s addition to the side has certainly helped improve Kerala’s resilience. However, lack of goals is certainly a concern which they need to address ahead of their New Year’s Eve clash against Bengaluru FC
