Brisbane Heat win maiden Women's Big Bash League title after beating Sydney Sixers
Delissa Kimmince and Laura Harris celebrate Brisbane Heat's WBBL victory
Brisbane Heat denied Sydney Sixers a third straight Women's Big Bash League title as they claimed a maiden crown with a three-wicket win in Saturday's final.
SCORECARD
Laura Harris (9no) struck the winning boundary from the second ball of the final over as Heat, indebted to opener Beth Mooney's 65 from 46 balls, topped Sixers' 131-7 at Drummoyne Oval.
Harris' younger sister Grace had earlier restricted Sixers with 3-23, her wickets including Ashleigh Gardner for 23.
Player of the Tournament, Ellyse Perry, top-scored for Sixers with 33 to take her tally of runs in the competition to 777, over 200 more than second-placed Sophie Devine of Adelaide Strikers.
But her side were unable to mark Australia Day with a WBBL hat-trick having defeated Perth Scorchers in the previous two finals.
Ellyse Perry ended a superb tournament personally on the losing side
Heat are the first side from outside Sydney to win the WBBL, with Sydney Thunder beating Sixers in the inaugural final three years ago.
Heat's victory was not without nerves, though - Dane van Niekerk snapped an 84-run stand between Mooney and Kirby Short (29) for the third wicket, dismissing both batters in the same over, amid the Brisbane team slipping to 103-5.
Harris kept her head, however, and despite two further wickets falling, she sealed Heat's first WBBL title by pulling Marizanne Kapp through midwicket for four.
