East Bengal went down to arch-rivals Mohun Bagan in the season's first derby after conceding from a set piece in the first-half. Khalid Jamil's side tried to get back in the game but their wastefulness in front of the goal cost them three points.

Jamil was furious with his team's defence of set pieces and did not hold back words while criticizing them.

"We conceded a silly goal. The marking was not proper. It was a total defensive lapse. Whoever was in charge of marking Kingsley inside the box didn’t do his job," said an infuriated Jamil after the match.

"It is not about performance. We have lost vital points. Performance is ok but it was important to win and get the points. We also got good chances. Plaza got one chance but could not score. It happens. Strikers may have a bad day where they miss chances," said Jamil.

The Red and Gold coach was all praise for Mohun Bagan but also added that the loss was unfortunate for his team.

"They played well. We started well but they took over in the middle. Unfortunately, [we] conceded in a set piece. We practised really hard. It was disappointing. But this is football, you have to concentrate," rued Jamil
