The match in a tweet: Clinical 'Canes remain unbeaten! Star performances from Wade, Short, and Archer ensure the Hurricanes make it two from two.

The score: Hobart Hurricanes 4-156 (Wade 52, Short 34, McDermott 28; Lamichhane 3-24) defeated Melbourne Stars 5-155 (Maxwell 47, Larkin 45; Archer 3-25, Short 3-23) by six wickets with eight balls to spare.

The hero: There aren't too many batsman around the country currently in better form than Matthew Wade. The Tasmanian veteran has more runs than any other player (571) in the Sheffield Shield competition and his knock of 52 against the Stars showed that he will be a force to be reckoned with throughout BBL|08. The 30-year-old - who turns 31 on Boxing Day - used all his experience, craft and guile against the Stars, as he didn't take too many risks, but ensured he put away the bad balls when required. His innings alone put the Hurricanes in a dominant position as the Stars were forced to use their best bowlers earlier than they would have liked in an attempt to get him out. By the time he did depart, it was too late.

r put the list together at the Hurricanes seems to have done a decent job as they appear to have a good balance in their side between youth and experience. Their top order has the explosive D'Arcy Short and Ben McDermott, coupled with a pair of veterans in George Bailey and Matthew Wade who know how to get the job done. Short got the Hurricanes rolling on Monday with a quickfire 34 against the Stars, while Wade, McDermott and Bailey provided the finishing touches.

The consolation act: Stars allrounder Glenn Maxwell was in a devastating mood on Monday night as he smashed five sixes - including an amazing switch hit - on his way to a quickfire 47. Maxwell strode to the crease with his side at 2-32 and was out more than 10 overs later with the score at 123. The haters will say he got out when he should have pushed on and helped the Stars to a score of 170+, while others will point to the fact that the team in green would have been in all sorts without his contribution.

The unsung hero: It remains to be seen whether or not Jofra Archer will turn out for England during the Ashes or the World Cup next year, but one thing we do know is how good the Barbados-born quick is for the Big Bash competition. Archer picked up two wickets against the Heat in the Hurricanes' first contest of BBL|08 and backed that effort up with three big scalps against the Stars. The 23-year-old collected two wickets from his first two overs and then returned late in the innings to pick up the huge scalp of Maxwell. Archer finished with excellent figures of 3-25, only just going for over a run-a-ball during his four overs.

The big moment: Maxwell was in fine touch for the Stars and with him and Nick Larkin set at the crease it looked like the visitors were well on their way to posting a score in excess of 170. Enter Archer. The towering paceman trapped Maxwell plumb in front during the 16th over and it helped the Hurricanes restrict the Stars to a below-par score.

The stat: It's now been 709 days - or one year, 11 months and 10 days - since the Stars have won a game outside Melbourne. The Stars are winless from two matches at BBL|08 and won just twice - both victories were in Melbourne - during BBL|07. You have to go way back to BBL|06 to find their last triumph outside of Melbourne, coming against the Scorchers on January 14, 2017.

The next stop: The next test for the unbeaten Hurricanes is a clash against the Sydney Thunder at home on Friday December 28, while the Stars are back in action on Thursday December 27 in Sydney against the Sixers.
