Perth Wildcats star Tom Jervis has vowed to rectify his foul problems to become a more valuable player to his team.

Jervis has been plagued by foul issues since the start of pre-season. He has committed 29 fouls from 114 minutes on-court during the NBL Blitz, NBA pre-season and first two games of the NBL season.

The 31-year-old said that trend could not continue.

“I need to change the way I’m going about it out there,” Jervis said. “I’m having conversations with (assistant coach) Matty Nielsen about the things I’m doing out there.

“We’re watching some film and trying to limit them as much as possible to stay out on the court for as long as possible.

“It changes from game to game but I’ve got to keep my hands out and do the right things and pick up the way the refs are calling it.

“If they’re calling it a certain way, I can’t be fouling that way.

“It’s a learning curve. It’s been a bit of thing throughout my career lately.

“We’re trying to pin it down.”

Jervis rejoined the Wildcats this year after two seasons with the Brisbane Bullets.

He will confront his former club at RAC Arena on Saturday in what will be his 100th game for the Wildcats.

Jervis has been Perth’s starting centre while Australian Boomer Angus Brandt recovered from an ankle injury. He said having Brandt fit again gave them plenty of firepower.

“We’re going to be a good duo,” Jervis said.

“I remember it was the same with me and Nate (Jawai) and Matty (Knight).

“As long as the guys are on the same page in what we need to do as a job and splitting those minutes, and being a powerhouse, we’re going to be fine.

“I think we did a fantastic job of that on the weekend.

“We tag-teamed really well, did our job and helped the team to get the wins.”
