Likely first-round draft pick Ian Hill will miss his final chance to impress AFL recruiters on the national stage after being suspended for a sling tackle that left an opponent with concussion and a broken collarbone.

WA livewire Hill was on Tuesday found guilty of rough conduct by an AFL tribunal over an incident involving Vic Country’s Laitham Vandermeer during last Friday night’s national under-18 championships match at Geelong.

Hill was suspended for two matches and will miss WA’s last fixture of the championships – against the Allies at Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.

WA officials had hoped an early guilty plea would see Hill’s penalty reduced to a reprimand.

Hill, who plays for Perth and Wesley College, is a cousin of Fremantle stars Stephen and Bradley Hill.

The 18-year-old is likely to be the first WA player drafted this year despite a slow start to the under-18 championships.

He finished with 19 disposals and six tackles against Vic Country at as WA registered their first win, following defeats to top sides South Australia and Vic Metro.

Subiaco’s Wil Hickmott – the son of former Geelong and Carlton player Adrian Hickmott – is expected to take Hill’s place in the team against the Allies.
