Jockey Henry Brooke is in an induced coma after suffering injuries in a fall at a Hexham racecourse.

His condition at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle is described as "stable".

"He is in an induced coma to assist him with his breathing," said a statement from the Injured Jockeys' Fund.

Brooke was kicked by another horse after his mount Old Storm, trained by Brian Ellison, fell in a novices' handicap chase on Saturday.

Racing was delayed for almost two hours while he was treated by on-course medical staff before he could be taken to hospital.

Brooke's mother, Julia, said on Saturday that her son had suffered a broken collarbone and a suspected collapsed lung.
