As much as Dan Le Batard gets noticed for having a quirky radio show that plays to a certain audience, the man is connected in South Florida. He has been a columnist at the Miami Herald since 1990 and has plenty of sources in the city.

So when he says people in the Heat organization believe LeBron James "checked out" during the 2014 NBA Finals, which Miami lost in five games to the Spurs, he is likely telling the truth. He said just that on the Le Batard Show on ESPN Friday.

"Final season with the Heat, LeBron James, the Heat organization believed, knew he was leaving and checked out on the Finals," Le Batard said. "It looked like he was trying. The stat sheet looked like he was trying. But the Miami Heat believed that he checked out and was no longer trying."
While James put up great numbers in the series and it may be unfair to call him out for his mindset during a Finals he probably knew his team was going to lose, it's relevant to his current situation.

James declined his option in Miami in 2014, and many expect him to opt out of his Cavaliers contract after this season, too. He's likely come to terms with the notion that Cleveland will have a hard time beating the Warriors in the NBA Finals this season, that is if the Cavs can even get there.
So if James and the Cavaliers get to the Finals in 2018 and he doesn't think his team can win, will he "check out" again? It might not be a fair question to ask, but it's certainly a situation to monitor
