THE Melbourne and Caulfield Cups are in the sights of Godolphin trainer Saeed Bin Suroor after his colt Best Solution won the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Berlin at Hoppegarten under a powerful Pat Cosgrave ride.

A trip to Melbourne in the spring remains “the plan” for the son of Kodiact, who produced arguably a career-best when landing the Princess of Wales’s Stakes at Newmarket last month.

The trainer could keep Best Solution on his travels, with a trip to Australia for the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup a possibility.

“All being well I think that’s the plan, but I’ll leave that to Saeed, who knows best,” said jockey Cosgrave.''

TOP CLASS NOMS
THE Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes has attracted a star-studded list of 18 nominations including eight individual Group 1 winners.

Victoria’s premier trainer Darren Weir has seven horses entered for Saturday’s 1400m weight-for-age race at Caulfield including Saturday’s Aurie’s Star Handicap winner Voodoo Lad, along with Humidor, Black Heart Bart, Kings Will Dream, Danon Liberty, Red Cardinal and Big Duke.

Jameka has been nominated by trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace while the other Group 1 winners entered are Black Heart Bart, Boom Time, Grunt, Harlem, Hartnell, Humidor and Mighty Boss.

Godolphin’s Hartnell won the race first-up from a spell last year and earlier this year won the Group One C.F. Orr Stakes over the course and distance.

SANDOWN GALLOP FOR DOC
GROUP 1 winner Hey Doc is expected to add some star power to a midweek Sandown meeting for a race day gallop as he builds up to his season return.

Hey Doc impressed with his win in a recent jumpout over the Flemington straight course and trainer Tony McEvoy said the dual Group One winner was scheduled to gallop between races on Wednesday.

The winner of the Australian Guineas in March last year, Hey Doc added another victory at the elite level as a spring four-year-old in October in the Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.

He made only one appearance last preparation, finishing unplaced in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes (1100m) in February with an injury to his pectoral muscles ruling him out of the autumn.

He is likely to begin his campaign in Saturday week’s Carlyon Stakes at Moonee Valley.
