It’s players like Glenn Maxwell that make the Big Bash League a global success.

The freakish right hander - once known affectionately as ‘Big Show’ - unveiled his full bag of tricks for the Melbourne Stars on Christmas Eve, including a switch-hit from Hobart’s Clive Rose that defied logic.

After landing a well-pitched orthodox delivery, Rose watched on helplessly as Maxwell reversed his grip and stance, launched into a left-handed sweep shot and sent the Kookaburra sailing over the small confines of Blundstone area.

So clean was the strike, umpires Shawn Craig and Sam Nogajski called for the box of replacement balls seconds after signalling six.

Maxwell, then on 36, followed up a delivery later by belting Rose with a relatively conventional lofted cover in the same direction.

A shot not uncommon in T20 cricket, but remarkable nonetheless.

The enigmatic Victorian finished his 31-ball knock on 47, with five maximums to his name as Melbourne ambled to 5-155 off 20 overs.
