AUSTRALIAN basketball has picked up its second major medal in a month with the Gems winning bronze at the FIBA Under-18 Asian championships.

The young Australians reversed an earlier result to beat Korea for the bronze with a 75-58 victory in the medal match.

Nnenna Agnes Emma-Nnopu was a standout for Australia with 17 points, 17 rebounds and three assists with Miela Goodchild topscoring with 21.

The medal followed on from the Opals winning silver at the recent World Cup in Spain and the Gems losing by one to Korea in the preliminary rounds.

Australia has also secured a spot in next year’s 2019 under 19 World Cup in Thailand thanks to the Gems performance in India.

Japan, who beat the Gems in the semi-finals, won the event with China picking up the silver.
