The scorecard: Adelaide Strikers 5-174 (Short 62, Wells 40; Nabi 1-21) lost to Melbourne Renegades 5-176 (Christian 49no, Nabi 48no) by five wickets with five balls to spare.

The match in a tweet: Allrounders unite! Sixth-wicket pair Christian and Nabi put on stunning rescue act as Renegades down Strikers #BBL08

The moment: The match undulated right through until its penultimate over, when Billy Stanlake charged in to Dan Christian. The first was a searing yorker that hit Christian's foot (with a hint of inside edge) and squirted away to fine leg for four. The next ball was in the allrounder's hitting zone, and he made the most of it, absolutely creaming a maximum into the top tier beyond midwicket. Another six and four followed to finish the over, and all of a sudden 23 from 12 had become three from six. Game over.

The hero: Christian does it again! The veteran was a star with the ball in his first game for the Renegades last Thursday, taking three wickets, and tonight his unbeaten 49 from just 27 balls was a superb match-winning knock.

The support cast: Afghan allrounder Mohammad Nabi was right there by Christian's side, making 48 not out from just 30 balls as the pair used all their experience to seal the game against the defending champs.

The impersonator: Tim Ludeman, take a bow. You just have to watch this!

The consolation effort: Sometimes it's the unlikely figures who shine in the Big Bash, and so it was the case tonight for the Strikers. After struggling to 3-63 in the ninth over, fourth-wicket pair Matt Short (65) and Jono Wells (42) put on a 104-run partnership. Short, who had moved across from the Renegades, plundered five sixes, while the under-rated Wells played second fiddle brilliantly as the duo pushed their side to an above average score. Meanwhile, Afghan spin wizard Rashid Khan was at it again with another two wickets. After conceding just three runs in his first over, he claimed the wicket of set pair Sam Harper and Cameron White in his second, and finished with outstanding figures of 2-13.

The stat: Christian and Nabi's unbeaten 96-run stand is the highest in the history of the Big Bash for the sixth wicket.

The next stops: The Strikers head to Perth for a Boxing Day clash with the Scorchers, while the Renegades host Sydney Sixers on December 29.
