Fidel Edwards has signed a contract extension with Hampshire, a one-year extension that will keep the 37-year-old at the club until the end of the 2020 season. Edwards has been with the county since the 2015 season.

"I'm very pleased to have signed for my sixth season at Hampshire, which has become my second home. Hopefully next year we can push on further and I'll be trying my best to help make it a successful season for the club," he said.

Edwards has been a consistent performer at the south coast club. In his debut campaign in 2015, he took 45 wickets in eight games at an average of 20.80. Despite suffering an injury in early 2016, Edwards picked up 33 wickets at an average of 24.06. The West Indian picked up 54 scalps last year and has followed that up with 47 wickets so far at an average of 23.55 including four five-wicket hauls.

"Fidel has been fantastic for us since joining in 2015 and this year he's excelled once again. He's an important part of our squad and a great character to have in and around the group - we're delighted to welcome him back for another year," Giles White, Director Of Cricket.

Hampshire are placed fourth in this season's division one championship. The first of their last three fixtures this season is against Surrey starting September 10.
