Titans vs Cape Cobras

Titans almost let slip a first innings lead as they managed to cling on to a draw against Cape Cobras at Benoni. Having taken a lead of 134, Titans were set a target of 215 with just over a session left in the game. They lost 6 for 89 and needed the experienced Farhaan Behardien to bail them out. The right-hander consumed 98 balls for his 29 and ensured Titans don't lose the game.

Earlier on, Pieter Malan (120) and Kyle Verreynne (155) struck centuries for Cobras but without much contribution from others they were bowled out for 338 with Cobrin Bosch and Junior Dala sharing nine wickets. Titans too had twin centurions in Behardien (140) and Wesley Marshall (109) and it was the late order contribution from Dayyaan Gailem that gave them the lead.

Verreynne was not done in the game as he notched up his second ton in Cobras' second essay to wipe out the deficit and give them a lead of 214. Dane Paterson, who had taken 7 for 91 in Titans' first innings, added two more to make things interesting on the final day.

Brief scores: Cape Cobras (Pieter Malan 120, Kyle Verreynne 155; Cobin Bosch 5/69, Junior Dala 4/58) & 348 (Kyle Verreynne 115; Tshepo Moreki 4/98) drew with Titans 472 (Farhaan Behardien 140, Wesley Marshall 109, Dayyaan Gailem 81; Dane Paterson 7/91) & 89/6 (Farhaan Behardien 29*; Dane Paterson 2/24)

Knights vs Dolphins

This game panned out in almost the similar way as the Titans-Cobras encounter except the drama on the final day. Dolphins opted to bat first at Blomfontein and their 370 was not enough to give them a first innings lead. Knights topped that score and managed to secure a 149-run lead before declaring the innings.

Dolphins lost their top three for just 17 in the second innings but a solid unbeaten 90 from Cody Chetty and a couple of contributions from the lower order ensured that they got something out of the game. In the first innings, Dolphins had three half centuries but none could go past Marques Ackerman's 88 as Corne Dry and Gerald Coetzee shared seven wickets.

Knights' first innings lead was achieved on the back of two daddy hundreds. Opener Raynard van Tondar scored 165 and captain Petrus van Biljon converted his into a career-best - 218. Dolphins' offspinner Prenelan Subrayen was one of work horses as he bowled 35.3 overs for figures of 5 for 124.

Brief scores: Dolphins 370 (Marques Ackerman 88, Robbie Frylink 78, Khaya Zondo 63; Gerald Coetzee 4/61, Corne Dry 3/75) & 219/6 (Cody Chetty 90*; Patrick Kruger 2/23) drew with Knights 519/8d (Petrus van Biljon 218, Raynard van Tondar 165; Prenelan Subrayen 5/124)

Warriors vs Lions

Warriors lost their first game of the season to Knights but bounced back to secure a 3-wicket win over a strong Lions side at East London. Lutho Sipamla was one of the stars for Warriors as he picked up 8 wickets in the game which ended in the final session of day three.

Lions opted to bat and were rolled over for 152 with only three batsmen reaching double digits. Rassie van der Dussen and Wiaan Mulder's 89-run partnership was the highlight of the innings and that stand made sure the final total was respectable. Warriors' batsmen also didn't have a great first innings and if not for their captain JJ Smuts' 61 and the lower order contributing, they wouldn't have got a 54-run lead.

The second innings for Lions for slightly better but their 217-all out meant the bowlers had to defend a mere 164. They almost defended it as they had the Warriors were stuttering at 5 for 67 and only a 70-run association between opener Matthew Breetzke and Onke Nyaku bailed them out of trouble.

Brief scores: Lions 152 (Rassie van der Dussen 68; Lutho Sipamla 4/57) & 217 (Dwaine Pretorius 71; Lutho Sipamla 4/53) lost to Warriors 206 (JJ Smuts 61; Wiaan Mulder 4/36) & 166/7 (Matthew Breetzke 59, Onke Nyaku 59*; Malusi Siboto 4/47) by three wickets.
