DAVID Hayes knows The Everest will be run on a wet track but he’s doesn’t believe that discounts his star sprinter Vega Magic from winning.

“He’s better on a dry track but he’s got form on wet tracks,” Hayes said.

And Hayes had evidence to back up his assertion as he pointed to a race at Caulfield on August 17, 2017.

“That was a slow track that day and he defeated two horses he’s against on Saturday, Brave Smash and Santa Ana Lane and they were getting six kilograms off him."

Hayes said Vega Magic had also trialled well on wet tracks at Flemington.

Last year Vega Magic finished an unlucky second in the inaugural The Everest behind Redzel, who is also back to defend his crown.

On that occasion Vega Magic settled off the speed out wide before storming home.

Although Vega Magic won the Memsie Stakes last year before that run, and only finished fourth in that race last year, Hayes believes he’s going as well as last year.

“That was a pretty good run last start. It was a high pressure race and he was taken on which brought the others which took him on unstuck and they finished well back.”

Vega Magic is a $7 equal favourite with Santa Ana Lane and Trapeze Artist and will be ridden by Damien Oliver.

Hayes will have two representatives in the Caulfield Guineas, which will be Good ‘n’ Fast and Muswellbrook.

“Good ‘n’ Fast had the best closing sectionals in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude and Muswellbrook ran a great second in the Stutt Stakes.”

Hayes has elected to bypass the Caulfield Guineas with Long Leaf as he will concentrate on the Coolmore Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on November 3 with him.

Hayes said his stayer Jaameh would have his next start in The Lexus, on that same day, in a bid to try and secure a Melbourne Cup start by winning the race.

HITTING THE MARK
IT was a winning debut for Herald Sun spring form analyst James Lamb, who steered punters in the right direction at Flemington on Saturday.

Lamb, from punters.com.au, landed both a wide and skinny quaddie, and nailed the Turnbull Stakes first four with Winx as ananchor.

PointsBet trader The Sarge told us Winx would struggle to win by more than three lengths, while also giving us Gilgai Stakessecond placegetter Eduardo as a top each-way hope.

Guest panellist Mark Waugh, of Fox Cricket, hit the tipping crease all guns blazing, landing best bet I Am Serious in Sydney, while his value bet I Am Excited won here.

Racecaller Matt Hill also found two winners — Avilius and I Am Excited.

Stay tuned for this week’s edition of the Friday Racebook and Saturday’s The Punt.
