The Ethiopian Premier League (EPL) will play host to one of the most anticipated matches of the season where St. George will face Ethiopia Coffee on Sunday in the Sheger derby.

Boasting a strong rivalry between the two that stems from a 14 year dominance by St. George and Ethiopia Coffee being the only strong hurdle the Horsemen face; Sundays game will be interesting enough since St. George’s current form is marred by inconsistency.

The Horsemen, have collected eight points out of a possible 18, while Ethiopia Coffee has collected 11 points after playing 6 matches.

In one rescheduled fixture match, St. George played against Jimma Aba Jiffar on Thursday registering a 2-0 win in Addis Ababa Stadium. Horsemen’s forward Abel Yalew opened the scoring in the 56th minute and Salahdin Said doubled their tally in the 62nd minute after his return from injury.

Another fixture includes a Tigray derby between Suhul Shire and Mekele City on Sunday. Suhul is placed at the bottom with four points, while Mekele has collected seven points and is placed eighth with a match in hand. The newly promoted Suhul Shire humiliated Hawassa City 6-1 last week while Mekele drew against St. George.

Elsewhere, Sundays fixture list sees Adama City take on South Police. Adama City is still lackluster after losing matches. Woliata Dicha host Dire Dawa City and Sidama Coffee is to face high flyers Hawassa City. Hawasa City leads the league table with 14 points. Fasil follow via 11 points while Ethiopia Coffee sits third via 11 points and Bahir Dar City also with 11 points occupy fourth on goal difference. Suhul Shire, South Police and Dedebit still dangle in the relegation zone.
