The veteran Dutch coach continues to come under fire for recent results, with the Red Devils not having endured a similar run since their treble-winning campaign of 1998-99

OPTA STATS

Things can only get better for Manchester United after their 2-1 defeat to Norwich at Old Trafford saw Louis van Gaal's men equal their longest run without a win during a single season in 17 years.

Goals from Alex Tettey and Cameron Jerome fired the Canaries to victory and meant Anthony Martial's 66th minute strike was nothing more than a consolation.

The result left many wanting to see the back of Van Gaal, with Jose Mourinho's name sung from the terraces at Old Trafford just days after he was sacked by Chelsea.

United now haven't tasted victory in six games, with their last win coming away at Watford in November, and that run of form has seen them drop to fifth in the Premier League on 29 points.

The last time the Red Devils endured such a lean spell in the same campaign was back in December 1998, but on that occasion they staged a remarkable recovery to go on and win the treble.

However, there is already no chance of Van Gaal's side repeating that feat, after United were knocked out of the Champions League earlier this month and the League Cup in October.

The FA Cup remains their last hope of silverware this term where Sheffield United will provide the opposition in the third round of the competition on January 9.
