Adam Simpson’s daughter Elsa has “turned the corner” and is in good spirits after being admitted to hospital at the weekend.

The West Coast coach issued a statement on Monday after skipping the Eagles’ win over the Western Bulldogs on Sunday to fly home from Melbourne and be by his daughter’s bedside.

“A sincere thank you to everyone for your messages of support over the past 24 hours. Elsa has turned the corner and in good spirits and for that we are extremely grateful,” Simpson said.

“As we all know footy is a big part of our lives but family comes first and I thank the club for its support during this time.

“I am extremely proud of how the players, coaches and staff handled themselves yesterday.

“We all look forward to taking on the Cats on Sunday.”

Assistant coach Jaymie Graham took the reins in Simpson’s absence as the Eagles dominated across the park to chalk up a 50-point win - their first of the season.
