ST GEORGE Illawarra are reportedly considering a making a play for off-contract Parramatta star Jarryd Hayne.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the Dragons believe they can offer Hayne $500,000 next season.

Hayne remains without a deal for 2019 and recently revealed over social media yet was still waiting on an offer from the Eels.

Eels chief executive Bernie Gurr stated on Tuesday that the club wished to keep Hayne on next season.

The club told foxsports.com.au on Wednesday that position hasn’t changed. However, the club are believed to be attempting to offload several big-name players including Michael Jennings, Corey Norman and Mitchell Moses to make way for him.

Following the release of Nene Macdonald to North Queensland and the retirement of Jason Nightingale, the Dragons have been looking to sure-up their outside backs.

They recently announced the signings of Brisbane flyer Jonus Pearson and Canberra’s Mikaele Ravalawa on two-year deals, but the club’s recruitment boss Ian Millward said they were still on searching the player market.

“We are still on the lookout but we want to be patient once again. We don’t feel at the moment what we’re looking for is currently out there,” Millward said earlier this month.

“We have certain criteria that we’re looking at and we don’t want to compromise ourselves by signing someone just to make up the numbers.

“We’re really excited about the players we’re bringing in — keeping in mind that Zac Lomax is an outstanding prospect — but we’re still on the lookout for one more player.”

The Dragons have been contacted for comment.
