IS the much-anticipated Harley Bennell comeback on hold?

6PR broadcaster and former Fremantle star Paul Hasleby thinks so, raising fears Bennell may have re-injured his troublesome calf late in his WAFL appearance for Peel Thunder at the weekend.

Bennell was in best-on-ground calculations despite Peel’s loss to West Perth, racking up 27 disposals and two goals.

But the injury-prone star sat out the final minutes of the game, sparking fears of a fresh setback instead of a potential push for senior selection ahead of Sunday’s Western Derby.

“There are fresh concerns that he may have hurt his calf again,” Hasleby said on Sportsday WA.

“He struggled to finish the game with Peel Thunder on the weekend. He was very good... it’s devastating because he was very good.

“He’s had two games back now where he hasn’t been back on reduced minutes. He’s been able to go out there and play.

“He would have come into the (Fremantle) team if he was fit, ready and raring to go, but there are fresh concerns that perhaps he has hurt his calf again and he may miss the rest of the season given his history with that.

“It’s devastating news for Harley Bennell and the Fremantle Dockers.”

Dockers coach Ross Lyon on Sunday said he did not know how Bennell had pulled up following the match 24 hours prior.

Fremantle is expected to provide an update on Bennell’s status in the club’s injury update this afternoon.

Bennell has played just two games in the past three seasons after struggling to find consistent fitness.
