India's national selectors have added Shikhar Dhawan to the squad for the ongoing series against South Africa A in Trivandrum. Dhawan will be available for the final two one-dayers to be skippered by Shreyas Iyer. The MSK Prasad-led selection committee also confirmed that all-rounder Vijay Shankar has been ruled out of the remainder of the series after suffering a thumb fracture.

Dhawan, who returned to competitive cricket after suffering a World Cup-ending finger injury in June, had modest returns in the limited-overs in West Indies. The southpaw played all three T20Is, aggregating only 27 runs while the two ODIs too brought only 38 runs. He has been named in India's 15-member T20I squad for the forthcoming home series against South Africa and with Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul also offering opening alternatives.

Meanwhile, Vijay, who didn't play the first one-dayer faces another testing spell on the treatment table as he looks to force his way back into national reckoning. Picked as India's first-choice No.4 for the World Cup, Vijay first lost his place to KL Rahul in the middle-order before an toe injury ended his World Cup campaign. He wasn't picked for the tour of West Indies.
